When my dad got tired of messing with the 6v on his H, he bought an alternator and 12v battery, and I gave him a 12v coil and ballast resistor. He ended up not messing with the alternator and just ran total loss, putting the tractor on the charger occasionally. The starter spun over nicely on 12v.
