Hendrik, The older shirts may still be around, but given the nature of the enemy our armed forces have become much more disciplined about the disposal of uniforms to prevent them from falling into enemy hands. If you find some, do get an official receipt 'just in case' questions are asked on your way back out of the country. I also recommend that you launder them well prior to packing; the scent of fresh cordite may be detected chemically and then Hendrik & Co get removed from an aircraft to answer questions by law enforcement, and at the very least you miss your flight. If you have any doubts, ask the U.S. airlines and they'll point you in the right direction. It may be easier to mail them home. My neighbor the airline pilot had a flight held at gate for 30 minutes until law enforcement showed up to remove an entire family who had a memento from their son (U.S. Air Force, old shell casing made into a unit decoration). Very inconvenient and embarrassing for all, each family member was removed in custody of two very large men and separated for questioning and had to convince the local bomb squad not to blow up their luggage, and in the end the memento was confiscated for destruction.

I guess that is the thing, some places should be getable to with public transport but other may require a hire car or taxi. We won't be bringing much in the way of clothes, that's what walmart is there for ;-) although I do want to try and get myself some more US army combat shirts, I have a couple of the older ones with the 3 pattern camouflage but they are getting a bit grubby (I wear then when I am working because I like the big 4 pockets on them and they are tough as leather and great in the hot weather) http://www.pmarmysurplus.com/html/bdu_shirts_3.html I guess most decent army surplus stores over there will have tons of them. Hendrik who is off to cook 200 snags for a fund raising barby, gotta get the cash to visit you lot :-) LarryT wrote: > Hi Hendrik - > Welcome to USA ! IMO riding a train is a great experience.
