Does your car have the antenna switch in the dash, and if it does, what happens when you try to raise the mast higher? Just trying to establish if this is a 'feature' or a problem, I think I remember that some model MB's will park the antenna at some height short of 'full extension' and let the operator move it around to suit the station.
