I went from a 2300 sf house to a 4500 sf house.  Plenty big, but if we had not 
bought it at a foreclosure price we would be living in a 3000 sf house or 
something similar...

Well, Yes! :)  I can certainly imagine it because the house we are probably 
going to buy is 3000 Sq. ft. and there is just the two of us and no kids, yet - 
plus almost an acre yard.   I realize we don't need 3000 SQ. Ft, but our house 
payment will actually go down from the current house (even though the new one 
is more expensive) because we have a home equity loan on our current house that 
we used to pay off some law school debt and to remodel the kitchen, bath, etc.  
One of these days the fertility treatments are going to work and we are going 
to need 3000 sq ft and four bedrooms for all the little Snooks running around.
