You've got the idea but don't do it, spend whatever it costs to rent a trailer, 
it'll be more stable and easier pulling.

Oh, if you're going to do it disconnect the driveshaft and tie/wire it up out 
of the way...

Just put front wheels on the dolly, put it in neutral and go?  Lock
steering?  What else needs to be done?  Has anyone done this?  My son wants
to do this with his 240D from Vancouver, WA to Austin, TX.
