MBZ used several different brands of calipers on these cars so they need to be the same brand left and right. Otherwise it's OK to replace just one stuck caliper. As many said, the hoses wear and sometimes fail ... acting like a check valve. If you bleed/replace brake fluid as MBZ recommends calipers last a long time.

Not dangerous I don't think but annoying. -Curt Date: Sun, 27 Jun 2010 13:32:11 +0000 From: "Brian Toscano" <brian.tosc...@gmail.com> To: "Mercedes Okie Benz Mailing List" <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Subject: Re: [MBZ] 126 STICKING CALIPER Message-ID: <723466914-1277645530-cardhu_decombobulator_blackberry.rim.net-3131775...@bd a2958.bisx.prod.on.blackberry> Content-Type: text/plain Do calipers really need to be replaced in pairs? What if the other works fine? I change in pairs based on the part. As an example. I seem to change more right side head lights than left side. My alignment guy says right side ball joints seem to fail more often than left. But, given the age of your car, you need new brake hoses no matter what. Replace all four while you're doing this job. You'll be very impressed with the improved pedal feel, and you'll reduce the chances of having your brakes hang up in the future significantly. Check your local auto parts store for rebuilt calipers... mine usually stock (!) them, or can get them in a few hours for these cars. And they're very affordable, perhaps under $100/each for the rears. Also consider that when you replace them, you should be doing it in pairs, left and right.
