There's always the possibility you have too much R12 in it.
Can you suck it out, put in a couple of pounds, and then trickle more in until
the sight window goes clear?
Are you sure you have the spec correct? I looked up a friend's 1993 Corolla
somewhere and it was about 50oz, but a sticker under the hood says 28oz. Works
great with 28oz in it, no way it would work with 50-54oz in it.
