Every time I see a lift for sale for a price within the reach of
amateur wrenches I wonder the same thing: why is it not OK to get
under a car supported only by a hydraulic jack, but it's OK to get
under a car supported only by a hydraulic lift? Isn't the latter just
as likely to kill you if the hydraulic system has a sudden
catastrophic failure and loses pressure? (Leaving aside the fact that
a car supported only by a jack can be kind of tippy, since the same
thing applies to a single jackstand if it's placed poorly.)
