Most automobile services manuals, particularly the factory manuals, are
written for professional mechanics.  They assume a certain familiarity
with the vehicle and common tasks.

The manuals that are intended for DIY-ers (Haynes, etc) are hit-or-miss.
Some things they describe well enough that a novice could do it, and
some things they don't.
