MB has specified DOT 4 since at least back to 1959 and the 111, then 110 models.

Want an honest opinion? DOT 3 is not worth buying, even for Deetriot iron. DOT4 in everything, unless you flush and use DOT 5

I thought the only main difference between DOT3 and DOT4 was boil temperature. Is there something about DOT3 that causes the hoses to swell?
