I was behind a kid driving a Powerstroke today, big chrome straight-pipe stack
exhaust absolutely BELCHING black smoke every time he was on the accelerator.
Shame what he was doing to his engine.
The timing advance on some of those chips is what breaks connecting rods.
The smoke probably just reduces engine life from 400,000 miles to 100,000 miles.
The old Ford Diesel forum had some kid on it who put whatever the dangerous chip
was at the time and propane fumigation on a brand new truck, and stuck a rod
through the block before it was a month old. He was hoping to get Ford to fix it
under warranty. Then somebody quoted all his posts about the mods and how much
wheelspin he was getting, and the kid was never heard from again, having finally
learned to keep his mouth shut.
