I moved away from Oak Park in 1970 when I started college - that is my vintage.
My vintage is my biggest detraction for employment - still unemployed
and not quite figuring out what civil engineering CAD transfers

Maybe you need to come north? My elder son is an intern architect at a
local firm (http://www.smithcarter.com/). He is working with a fellow
who came here from Chicago because the big architectural firm he worked
with there, essentially disappeared. He has been here about a year and
his wife and family are now planning to join him. I gather it may not be
easy to sell a house down there these days.
Don't know for sure, but assume that Civil Engineering CAD might fit in
that world somewhere.
