A 123 (or fill in the blank) which has been abused will cost a pretty penny to be made right.

But a 124 with OM603 is a wonderful combination.

Well worth the price of restoration, even though the market does not reflect that. The 14 head issue is much overblown. It is really an issue of owner abuse and allowing the engine to overheat; then blame the head, not the nut that holds the wheel. The cast iron heads were notorious for cracking too, until the last generation of them.

Dieselhead
The nut that holds the wheel is the cause of 99% of auto accidents and the majority of roadside breakdowns, and is the cause of most engine failures.

Does YOUR car need to have the nut that holds the wheel replaced?
