That looks like a piece of an internal snap-ring. This would
usually hold a set of clutches and or a clutch piston in the case
or in a drum in the transmission. Could have broken from age or
damage to the ledges that keep the ring in place. Only a matter
of time till there is more damage and the transmission quites.
Possible cause could be shifts that are too rough due to too high
a shift pressure and cause the clutches or piston to bang against
that ring way too hard and breaking the land that it rests in.
Start looking for a new transmission it's only a matter of time.
The car should not be able to move in park unless the parking
pawl is broken or a tooth or two are broken off the shaft or drum
that it locks. Now maybe occasionally the pawl will not engage a
notch and the car may move a bit till the pawl catches in the
next notch.
