Thanks to Michael Canfield and Mitch Haley for the suggestion of a manually
operated choke cable. Actually, some years ago that was the set up, but to pass
the smog inspection one year, I was required to install, or more correctly,
restore the original automatic choke assembly to its original condition. Which
I did and it turned out to be an inexpensive and easy task. That was my first
time working on a carb. Smog check is no longer required in California for a
vehicle of this vintage. (Nor is it required of the diesel - is this true in
all the states?)
Now the sad part. I believe the previous choke cable attached at such a place
that it relied on that plastic piece to operate. I will examine that
possibilty, but I am not optimistic.
Now where did I put that cable after I took it off----
