You'll get no arguement from that texting and driving is very stupid but
my point was the difference between talking on a handheld mobile versus
talking on a bluetooth or to a passenger. Heck some of the car ads on TV
even show the driver pushing a button on the steering wheel and
jabbering away.
That is why I am convinced that the ban on handheld mobiles is a money
maker because it can be enforced, in other words the cops can see you
holding a mobile.
Anyway I suppose your grand plan is to house the driver in a separate
cabin, so he/she is isolated from distractions, of course there would be
a whole range of safety features, such as no radio and mirrors that can
only be adjusted whilst the car is parked, perhaps with modern motion
sense technology we could have a system of detecting if the driver takes
his eyes off the road, or doesn't use two hands on the steering wheel,
the system could be set up so that there is a automatic fine issued
whenever the driver takes his eyes off the road.
On a related note, lack of sleep, notice how there is no regulation on
how long someone can drive a car, or go without sleep for 245 hours and
then get behind the wheel, difficult to police unless everyone is forced
to use a log book, like long distance truckies do.

So, it seems like everyone here is sufficiently skilled to drive and talk,
so they claim anyway.
Take a look at this NTSB report, download the pdf file and read the whole
thing paying attention to the photos and the cell phone record.

After reading the report, tell me again why there should be no regulation
of talking/texting while driving.
