Dunno. All I can tell you is as soon as I got up to about 50 mph that sucker
started whipping around like you wouldn't believe.

When it "broke loose" (not physically) and went off on its own, the car became
a passenger, as it literally flung the car around.

It's possible I had the bricks in back, rather than the front - this was in
1991 and I have slept since then. I am not that well versed on towing things,
as this was probably the second time I had something attached to my little
hitch...

All I know is that the trailer took over, and the car and I were along for the
ride. I am just proud of the fact that laundry was not necessary afterwards.

I loaded probably 400-500 pounds of bricks into a little UHaul trailer and

wall ahead of the axle.
I never would have thought that could possibly be a problem. They say 15-20% on
the hitch, but I always assumed that was a minimum, not a maximum.

You had most of the trailer's weight on the wheels, and 1/2 to 2/3 of the
bricks' weight on the hitch, and it acted like you had zero on the hitch?

That makes more sense. If the tail of the trailer was heavy, it would wag about. Cannot see it happening with the bricks up front.

I hauled a load of long 4X4's home once in a trailer and the trailer was not long enough. They hung out the back and of course, the weight distribution was all wrong. i was OK up to about 40 mph but after that the back end of the car wanted to swing back and forth. It was a long trip and I am still amazed that we were not run down from behind at that low speed, but we survived it and those 4X4's are still part of my fence.
