Hm. If the software is running with normal user privilege, it "should" not be able to corrupt the OS. Sometimes there are bugs in the OS. Actually there always are, regardless of the OS. Unix-like operating systems are very mature however, and should be quite capable of running for the life of the hardware under heavy load without getting "corrupt."
