Curt - I'm guessing a quick check of the gage would be to have someone watch the instrument cluster and pull the connector off of the temperature gage, note the gage reaction and then ground the gage connector and see if the gage swings the opposite direction. You can do this with a cold engine and engine running or not. Likely have to have the key set to the run position.
