Sand can make a good cushion or speed reduction medium if one runs off into it. Sand reminds me: In about '76 family and I were northbound on I-15 between Victorville, CA, an Las Vegas in a sand storm. 'Had been in left lane; visibility got really bad; I said aloud, "I better stay in right lane, some fool could be coming the wrong way and meet me head-on." Shonuff, less than coupla minutes after I said that, suddenly a car appeared in left lane headed wrong way!

The speed limit on I-10 in Far West Texas is posted at 80PH last time I
drove it, and there was talk of changing it to 85 MPH.  I'm not sure if
that went through.  There is nothing but sand for 500 miles between San
Antonio and El Paso.
