And yes, you can poke out the seal between the bypass filter and the full-flow filter in the cartridge, which will result in low oil pressure, although it's usually much lower than 1 bar at hot idle.

Only on the first iteration aluminum blocks. Cast iron blocks (450) are not a problem, it's worst on the 380's.

M117 engines can be a dangerous thing due to the potential for head bolt thread failure, which necessitates drilling out and installing threaded inserts (Helicoils) to fix. Part of this operation involves the use of a special MB jig, as the head bolt holes are not 90 degrees perpendicular to the surface of the block.

I am not knowing what running rich looks like, but will learn more about that. Compression was 140 all around but for two contiguous pistons with 130 and 120. That side also has very minor head gasket leak. PPI indy found all this and said the leak is a non issue at this point. The low compression is probably due to kruff on valve that solvents will remove. Indy says to just drive it and have fun. Rebuild or head work is more than the car is worth. He says this to everybody and seems to hate having people spend money fixing old cars. He is scheduled three days out and has all racks loaded.

If I snag a cheap rebuild M117, that is cool with me. Or I wait, enjoy and when it goes downhill, I get him to rebuild. He does great work.

First of all verify the gauge reading with a separate oil pressure

AFAIK for all Mercedes engines oil pressure gauge should be pegged above idle. If not it might be the pressure relieve valve or spring, or you
might have worn main bearings.

Is there an issue with filter stem o-rings like there is with the ON617?
