I have to say that Windows 7 has installed flawlessly whenever I've tried it, which has only been a few times. It's the dozens of update/reboot cycles post-install that are the pain.
Ubuntu is a commercially-sponsored distribution has as a primary goal the creation of an easy-to-use Linux desktop. From what I've heard (I don't use it, myself) they have mostly succeeded.
