As I recall, DOT3 and DOT4 are compatible and DOT4 is superior.  MBZ always
specified DOT4 as long as I've had MBZ cars.  DOT5 is a whole different
chemistry that's NOT compatible with DOT3/4 and possibly incompatible with
DOT3/4 seals, etc.

I recall hearing DOT 4 was more hygroscopic than DOT 3 and was a poor
choice to use.

I haven't heard about the introduction of DOT 5.

Any elucidation?
