I would say the path, rather, is:


            large                        starter      small
Battery => starter => ignition switch => lock-out => starter
           terminal           |           switch     terminal
                              |
                              |
                              | => charge light => alternator
                                                    exciter
                                                    terminal

Yes, if the connection at the large terminal of the starter were bad,
the ignition switch would get no power.
