Banned light? The word "banned" turns off a lot of people. You might
change "banned light" to Mercedes Social or something similar with better
results. Of course, there needs to be a little "management" or "tough
love".
When a member keeps posting non-Mercedes items on the Mercedes list, he
needs to be "banned" from that list after several warnings, but not the
social list. I've never seen an internet list prosper that didn't have some
management. All this bickering "turns off" members who are interested in
Mercedes but not in guns, abortion, politics, etc., etc.
If you don't have time to "manage" the list, you can appoint a sufficient
number of "moderators"
to keep the Mercedes list free of non-Mercedes topics. Warnings would come
from "the moderators" so no individual moderator could be blamed. I belong
to a list that has 15 moderators and it works quite well.

You have a group of people who want to talk about all sorts of subjects
other than Mercedes. Why don't you set up a "Mercedes Social List" for
discussion only and let the members of the group enforce the Mercedes
Repair list for Mercedes discussions only?
The Mercedes Banned List will never serve as a discussion list because
profanity, personal attacks, and "anything goes" do not go well with
thoughtful discussion and many won't go there.

Now we are really going off the deep end of off topic. Lets not forget
these same people who think we need to take away guns because they will
kill people are in favor of abortion. I guess it's ok to kill kids when
