The +P+ ammo we had to use for street carry was also known as "Treasury Loads" and was not available for sale to the public. Back in the day there was a lot of controversy over the use of 9mm for law enforcement, as it was considered marginal for the 1-shot stop standard. The standard was that one center-mass shot should stop an assailant most of the time. There were a few situations where LEOs had to hit with multiple rounds in order to end a fight, leading to public criticism for excessive force. The USDOJ determined that over-pressure 9mm rounds would do the job better and accepted the +P+ 9mm as standard duty carry for some agencies. As this proved not entirely satisfactory in terms of the long-term effects on the firearms. This led to the creation of the .40 cal, a joint project of S&W and some elements of the DOJ.
The M19 handles beautifully with standard 9mm ammo. Thanks Greg. Newbie, no idea what +P+ ammo is. How was the 19's recoil with normal ammo, like what you would use at a range? Most of my experience has been with military issue Beretta 9mm, which I can shoot just fine but the grip is too fat and I despise the muzzle climb. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '95 E300, '87 300TD, '73 Balboa 20 Greg Fiorentino <gf...@dslnorthwest.net> wrote: >I carried the 19 daily for quite a while.
