Leave it to pew-go to go a different route! Sounds like this might be the betamax. (whereas pre-eye are the VHS)

A new, experimental car made by PSA Peugeot Citroën in France is said
to get 81 miles per gallon in city driving, far better gas mileage
than hybrid electric vehicles like the Toyota Prius.

Called the Hybrid Air, the car uses what Peugeot calls "hybrid air
technology." Energy from braking is used to compress nitrogen gas in a
tank, which is then used to briefly power the car on acceleration
before the gasoline motor takes over.

Peugeot seems to be the leading automaker in making this technology
available and affordable -- it plans to begin selling the car for less
than ¤20,000, or $26,000.

Peugeot is banking on the car to increase profits, as the company
reported a 2012 net loss of ¤5 billion, but critics are uncertain
whether the car can compete with Toyota's hybrid vehicles (David
Jolly, New York Times, March 1).
