That is indeed a wild ride: seats facing aft during a catapult launch.  It
felt like 3+ Gs longitudinal to me.  You brace feet on the seat in "front"
and "hang" against the straps during the vat shot.  The loadmaster briefed
"do not to disconnect your harness for any reason" and he was dead serious.

I rode a C-2 catapult shot off USS Enterprise a few years ago; seats faced
aft.

Also rode in a C-5 from Italy to Norfolk once, same seat orientation.
