What was sorta' odd regarding the overheating in the '70 BMW I had was that 
what convinced me to purchase the car was that I had a friend who was racing 
one in SCCA at the time but, in hindsight, I'll bet he had the engine opened up 
periodically and never reached the mileage for it to start whatever was causing 
the overheating issues.  Never finding the real cause, I had guessed the 
coolant channels weren't of sufficient diameter and would decrease with age . . 
. only a guess.
