We did at one time take pride in the ability to make almost everything we need. Then we decided to go for the lowest cost or highest cost item as either a way to survive or to show how wonderful we were as a person. So we drive Mercedes and BMW, while eschewing Chubby and Frod.
Sam Walton got himself rich selling American to Americans. Now his progeny are reaping in treasures by selling chinese to americans who can no longer buy the goods they need made by their fellow citizens. Even the goobermint wants to outsource the items it needs on the battle field for cheapo crap. We are repatriating many of our manufacturing jobs. Than can only be a good thing.
