You wrote "front brake rotors glowing orange through the wheel spokes." - next time the LeMans 24 hr race is aired, watch at night and you'll see the same thing - very impressive. Back in the days when turbo's were 1st being used on sports cars, the night time video was very impressive! As the throttle was closed, large (relatively) clouds of fuel would be ejected through the exhaust and would ignite leaving a large fireball behind the car. It happened often when braking and also when changing gears. ;-)

Years ago, I saw a Mercedes magazine. On the cover was a picture of a
Mercedes racing car coming thorough a tight turn. You could see the front
brake rotors glowing orange through the wheel spokes.
