What happened to the terms for different races that I learned about many
years ago in high school or college - Caucasian, Negroid, Mongoloid, etc.?
Isn't it merely a statement of fact, not meant as anything denigrating?

So I was talking to my (then much younger and very PC) daughter and
committed the unpardonable sin of saying that I bought some groceries at
the
"Oriental Grocery"...the actual name of the store. She demanded to know
then how I would like being called an occidental. I honestly (missing
the
point entirely) told her I didn't give a crap.
But seriously...if you want to describe an oriental (someone from the
east,
who is racially of a group consisting of Japanese, Korean, Chinese,
Burmese
etc.) and you use the term "asian" doesn't that term also include people
from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka etc; who are racially and
culturally very different? When I read an account in the British news
about
some asian men being arrested for terrorist activities I can never figure
out WTF they are talking about!
SO is the PC version intended to blur those differences so as to make a
statement that those differences are meaningless in the same way that the
term "partner" can mean married people, people in a homosexual
relationship
or people working closely together in a business arrangement?
Inquiring minds want to know!

all
the time.

I am at a loss here. Is the term Oriental or Asian not politically
correct any more?
In my redneck area of the world, the two are the same, and neither is
considered offensive or racist.
Do I need to be re-educated?
