I haven't driven across since they started requiring a passport. The last time would have been 2007 I guess. We were at camp and decided to go to the casino in Pert-Andover. On the way over the Canadian guys ask where we're going "Lucky's" to which they reply "Leave all your money" we all laugh and head on through. On the way back the guy walks all the way around the Jeep (my parent's but I'm driving) then says "Muddy Jeep". I keep my yap shut since he hasn't asked a question "Real muddy Jeep". Now he's staring at me but I can stare back and act stupid with the best of them. Finally he says "Well?" and I say "Well what?" He takes our IDs and asks where we're from and is completely flabbergasted that my wife and I have MA driver's licenses but both my parents have Maine. Then he's totally shocked that my wife and mother were both born in MA while my dad and I were born in the same hospital not 10 miles from where we now sit. He just can't process that none of us actually live in Caribou but we own a camp there.
Finally after maybe 10 minutes of him asking us over and over if we're sure we know where we live and where we were born his supervisor comes and looks over his shoulder (zero other vehicles have been anywhere near us during this time, the Fort Fairfield border crossing isn't real busy) and after another couple minutes takes our IDs from the first guy, hands them to me and although the first guy is still talking says "You folks have a nice day now". The other guy shuts up and we drive off... -Curt Date: Fri, 20 Sep 2013 13:00:11 -0400 (EDT) From: m...@voyager.net To: "Mercedes Discussion List" <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Subject: Re: [MBZ] UPS is fast and cheap to canada Message-ID: <50447.107.194.192.215.1379696411.squir...@webmail.core.com> Content-Type: text/plain;charset=iso-8859-1 > I assume the same thing happens in reverse. It's been about 15 years since I made the crossing, but from what I remember, beyond the standard "anything to declare?" question, the US Customs questions were related to "got any illegal humans on board?" and the Canadian Customs questions were for "got anything we can tax?".
