I'm pretty much with Gary on this. My experience with Costco for food is
excellent. The vast majority of their food is excellent quality at
reasonable prices. Their fresh meats are quite good. Their fresh fish is
excellent: our local store has salmon, halibut, red rockfish, tuna and even
razor clams in season. As far as the Wally-world comparison, Costco's
employees seem happy, I don't see much turnover. I think they must have
pretty decent working conditions. Their made-in-China products are like
most other sources; much of that stuff is NLA from US sources.

As far as their produce, it is nice and at a good price, but packaged in
quantity too much for me and the wife. I do prefer a local family-owned
business for produce:

which is also closer to home.

Are the big-box stores responsible for the loss of American manufacturing?
I think it is way more complex than that.

You are delusional as a human being and shooting yourself in the foot as a
businessman. Costco is almost as bad as Wal-Mart when it comes to
destroying domestic manufacturing and small business. Every time you buy
something at a big box store, a little piece of America dies.
