Chlorinated hydrocarbons in the upper atmosphere destroy ozone, which keeps us from getting fried by UV radiation from the sun. Nothing to do with global warming. Since the ban on chlorinated hydrocarbons, the ozone layer is recovering -- no more huge hole in the ozone down south every year.
