Well rather than just keep arguing I figured it was time somebody got some proof one way or the other so I headed out to my '78 240D. I'd forgotten how much has to come apart to see the fog lights.
So here we go, perfectly normal 123 lights: http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz353/curtludwig/0F2F6AEE-913F-4F0D-A7D0-8580D97BE6AF-7731-0000062691B6D212_zps22d498ed.jpg View on i843.photobucket.com Preview by Yahoo Headlight door removed: http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz353/curtludwig/328285e0-26f5-41e6-b8db-fa26ee353d22_zpscda78417.jpg View on i843.photobucket.com Preview by Yahoo There are screws top and bottom to remove the bezel: http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz353/curtludwig/9403629A-71F7-4862-9D04-26098D4AA1BF-7731-000006269CBF4EBA_zps6ee9ddcb.jpg View on i843.photobucket.com Preview by Yahoo Then pull that rubber boot out of the way: http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz353/curtludwig/8F5C0903-1F4F-48B5-ABCB-8F67EC588B48-7731-00000626A30F1001_zps43f1ede9.jpg View on i843.photobucket.com Preview by Yahoo Tah dah, not sealed beam... Looks like 1 305 301 026 but I'd have to check again to be sure. The same number is cast into the glass on the face. So there we go, anybody got pics of sealed beam fog lights? -Curt Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2014 01:23:31 +0000 (UTC) From: roger...@comcast.net To: mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] 123 fog lights Message-ID: <1169647313.32448126.1398389011152.javamail.r...@comcast.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Well guys....I just went and looked at my fog lights on my 83 300D. The fog bulbs appear to be sealed beam just like the hi/lo headlights in the fitting beside them. The fog bulbs have "Bosch Germany" embossed in the glass in the middle of them. The fixtures that the bulbs sit in have Bosch sticker on the back of them. But the fogs are definitely sealed beam, not some replaceable bulb like are in my other newer vehicles. Now I purchased the 83 300D from a young Georgia Tech grad whose mother gave it to him after inheriting it from her father who was the original purchaser in South Carolina. The young man told me he would not change anything on the car because he was afraid his mother would be mad at him. Hence, the car was all original with 165,000 miles on it when I purchased it about 18 years ago. Anyway, I don't think they are aftermarket. If I care enough about this issue, I may get into my garage attic and dig out my backup set and see what they are, but as memory serves, they are identical to the set currently on the car. Just how I see it, your visions my differ... Best Wishes, Roger Roger Hale Dinnerware Classics, Inc.
