I was the supervisor, new to the job. My deputy explained how easy it would be to get rid of Darlene if I were to simply follow the procedures in the manual. I also forced someone to quit who abused the leave policies by taking extensive LWOP (leave without pay). I wasn't too happy about that, but she was never around and the personnel regs limit the amount of LWOP one can take. Now the OPM rules allow employees to donate their annual leave to others who have exhausted all their leave due to their own or a relative's illness...
