Since I started following JimC's advice and filling through the upper radiator hose I have had way fewer problems with air, just fill slow and let the air keep burping out until you see coolant come out the upper hole in the radiator, then jam the hose on and final fill to the bottle.
IIRC it helps to have the snout of the car pointing up.
