I have this pretty nice Sony receiver I bought a coupla years ago off CL
for cheap, was working great until it took a power hit when our power
went off. I did some googling and determined it is likely something on
the main circuit board but I haven't dug into that part of it as it is
kinda tight to get to it/get it out. I did some other troubleshooting
and the main power supply seems fine. The relay clicks like a machine
gun on startup so I guess some sort of overvoltage protection is kicking
in. Anyone have any luck doing anything with stuff like this? Googling
suggests it might be fixable but I'm not sure it's worth the bother. I
just ordered a Sony refurb off Newegg for a good price, but I hate to
see stuff go if it can be fixed, even though I didn't pay much for it...
It is a pretty heavy 5.1 unit, sounded really good until it crapped out.

A buddy gave me a very nice older Denon receiver to put in my new
kitchen, Newegg had some nice Pioneer speakers on sale a coupla weeks
ago for cheepcheep so I got those too, 5.1 setup in there now. I got
everything hooked up a coupla days ago but the receiver seems to run
really hot and it shut down. He said he noticed that too, but never used
it too much so was not a problem. I have it in a base cabinet with the
doors open, but I guess not enough air circulation. Got to put a fan on
it and see if it will keep running. I had some music going and it was
shaking the whole house, like, really shaking it. YOW! I'm going to get
a TV in today, so cooking entertainment options abound.
