I do too because they call it class rather than say BMW which uses series
(as in 5 series) to denote their models.
Will I get away with saying to people that I drive a Mercedes Benz E class
when referring to the 123? Oooh the snobbery.
Perhaps I should buy a 116 just so I can say I own a MB S class.
I have heard that the S stands for super but have no definitive proof of
this.

When the terms C, E, and S showed up, Mercedes explained that they meant
Compact, Executive and I don't recall the S explanation.
