Curt, I think mine was a GE, at least I use GE filters, which you can buy in various types (taste, particulate, etc.). I had it installed inline before the main water line gets to anything, thus the whole house is filtered. I also have a filter in my refrig for water and ice. Since it's now just my wife and I (girls are gone), I only change the filters about once per year. The whole house filter has a clear housing so it's easy to visually check.
