He might be right about them not holding up long term.

He's way off base in his reasoning of why.


Longer runs are better for the compressor than frequent cycles.

My parents finally retired their 1959 Coldspot freezer this year.

It was still running fine, and had rarely shut off (only for power failures, defrostings, etc) since my brother broke the knob off in 1965 when mom had it set full cold for moving to a new house.

I don't know about yours, but my newer fridge doesn't run much once it's cold. Maybe 15-20 minutes, once an hour or so. But it takes a day or two to go from room temp to fully cold.
