I was also thinking that Andrew might want to take the female
plug apart and tighten the little receivers a bit to promote
better contact. I did that with mine and it has worked fine even
without Deoxit.

Also, yes, spray both the male and female sections, then plug, in-plug them
several times.

corroded pins in the sending unit. Easiest option would be to apply Deoxit
which I don't currently own.
