They opened the injection system didn't they? (yes) Anytime the
injection system is opened (including the fuel lines after the main
filter and before the IP) dirt WILL be introduced unless extreme
sanitary conditions are observed.
A speck of dirt or sand so small you can't see it will ruin an injector.
Unless you failed to change the copper seals when you changed the
orings, it is time to swap injector holders and see if the problem stays
with one cyl or moves with the injector.

Max & Curley,
I can see why you would say an Injector might be bad, and I might tend
to agree, except it ran great before the shop replaced the o-rings.
After I replaced the GPs (and found the short I created) it started
smoothly and instantly every time. According to the shop and the
invoice, they only replaced the o-rings. When I took the DV's off I
found a couple o-rings broken. Also I may not have lubricated the new
o-rings properly with oil (I used kero) - could that be causing my
problems?
I think I'll do the DVs one more time (with new o-rings) and put that
possibility out of my head. I'll do them one at a time as Curley just
explained.
Sound like a plan? Should I replace the copper washers again as well?

Larry,
Did you also replace the copper washers for each delivery valve? If not,
you need to do that for all of them.
If you did, then I'll bet you've got a bad injector. Use the method Curly
described to isolate, and then you can try opening up and cleaning that
injector nozzle, maybe clear some junk that the shop allowed to
contaminate
the injector line. If you are getting close to 100k miles on the
injectors, it's probably time for new.

Hi gang,
Dropped the car off at a shop to fix a oil leak. (This may be old
news) The leak was coming from one of the delivery valves. After
replacing the DV O-rings I picked the car up and have had it for about
a week. The leak is gone but the car runs terribly. Like it's
running on 4 cylinders. I bought new o-rings and redid them. No
change. It still runs bad. I re-did the o-rings twice with no
change. Either I'm doing something basic wrong or one of the valves
dropped.
I'm trying to decide what to do next.
Thoughts?
My wife is ready to buy a new car. I plan to call the shop but have
very low expectation of them doing anything.
When this all started I talked to this list and got your advice for
rebuilding the DVs. I followed the procedure sent to me by
Curley. It was a Very straight-forward and easy to follow procedure.
(Thanks again Curley)
I can see the shop doing it wrong, This area isn't big on foreign
cars so the shop who did the work probably works on more Fords and
Chevy's than MBs. wise I can see me doing it wrong once but not
twice! I tend to be pretty careful when working o something like the
Inj,
What to do, what to do......?
Any ideas or thoughts?
LarryT.

Ouch. That doesn't give one confidence in their competence, does it?
