This is a very interesting thread as I have an '87 300SDL with about 250K
miles.  The tranny does seem sluggish getting into 4th., and also slow going
into reverse.  I have read about the reverse syndrome and have been very leery
about it failing me for some time now.  However, with this new information
there is a glimmer of hope.  I would also like some further info and details
that I can use to have a qualified tranny service operator to view and do the
necessary repairs.  Thanks very much for any info you can forward.

Bingo! I've been waiting 17 years for a definitive answer to that question!
Thanks you, Dan! Thank you!
Part number and instructions would be greatly appreciated!
