You have a wife. You could get by with a gasser/diesel for her daily driver and 
an EV for yours. The only drawback to the two car solution would be if you both 
wanted to take long trips in different places on the same day. 

The nice part about a EV or a Volt is you can run the AC in the garage with the 
car plugged in before you leave home. Or you can run AC in the parking lot at 
work before you leave, without idling an engine.
