The other thing that I did not mention is that they were original tires
on a new car. Sort of suspect that the big tire makers have a deal with
the car makers to supply less than their best tires.

Sometimes the vibration is the result of tread separation too. We had a
scenario a number of years ago that was similar. We had driven from
Winnipeg to Vancouver and noted some vibration at certain speeds. My
thought was to get the tires re-balanced when we got back home. On the
way back, we blew a tire at about 75 mph. Good that it was a rear tire
as my wife was driving and she kept the car under control. Went to the
tire shop when we got home and learned that they thought the tread was
separating on a couple of the other tires on the car too. Replaced all 4
of them.

This is a heads up on tires. This group already knows this. But, it is a good

Check your tires! In the last two months I have driven out of state several
times and drove almost 4,000 miles. I had a light shimmy on the highway that
came on every time at 55 MPH. I figured the tires needed to be balanced. So,
I brought it to a shop I trust down the street from my office. When the shop
took off the first tire, they found the problem. The left front tire had a
significant gash and the steel belts were poking through. It was ready to pop
at any time! This picture doesn't show how bad it really is. The steel belts
were coming through. I can't imagine how bad this could have been at 85 mph!
