Even if it is public facing I don't trust a nerd that looks too put together.
My first job out of college I was producing video for a company that made fire
alarms. About the third time I caught my tie in the tripod legs as I closed it
I got permission to not wear a tie on shoot days...

If your position isn’t public facing, I can totally understand that.  When I
worked for the school district they insisted that the men had to wear ties,
which was simply stupid BS.  I worked in a data center and rarely saw the light
of day, much less another human being unless it was one of my peers.

The County government is far more laid back.  I’m on the floor just above the
legal department, so sometimes I get on the elevator and someone will push the
button for Legal’s floor thinking I forgot to do it myself.  They’re the only
ones who wear suits and ties around here.

When I started my first job down here I showed up in a shirt and tie.  The
first thing people said was, ”You must not be from around here….”

Ditched the tie after that day.
