I totaled the Maverick about a year after I got it. Driving home from a school
event at night in an ice storm, skidded off the road at a turn on my street and
in doing so went over a big rock/boulder at the end of someone’s driveway that
was staked into the ground with big steel spikes. Tore the front suspension up
big time. Chalked that one up to inexperience.

A few years later when I was first married I got the Pinto as a hand me down.
Car was bought new by my Dad for my Mom, who thrashed the heck out of it as she
was known to do. Older brother got it next. He proceeded to run it into a
very tall curb after a night of drinking, hitting the curb so hard it bent the
front of the subframe. He sold it to me shortly after, which is when I
discovered that the damage was serious enough that it would eat a pair of front
tires in about 1,000 miles. I bitched big time over this, so he ended up
paying to have the frame straightened, which afterwards it was perfect.

Drove it for a few more years then sold it and bought a VW Type III fastback.
