I would be quite satisfied with that setup.  At times it can be
uncertain if one headlight is out.  But usually it's easy to spot
trouble if _both_ are dark.

It practice, this would seem to mean that all the current for the
headlights have to pass through the lamp-out relay?

I don't have a 124 - so I really don't care.
